Coach Micah Magness

Four-Time National Champion

Armed with over a decade of experience, Micah has competed in five debate styles across three separate leagues on both national and international stages. In just his first year of starting Citadel, Micah coached 4 National Champions who won titles in all three debate formats as well as limited prep.

As a sophomore, Micah and his partner won Parliamentary Debate at Nationals in 2023 and later became the only team in the league's history to win and then return to Parliamentary Debate finals at Nationals a second time. In 2024, Micah secured the national titles in Apologetics and Lincoln-Douglas Speaking. In 2025, Micah became the Lincoln-Douglas Debate National Champion. Micah set the League record for the most Lincoln-Douglas points ever earned in a single season and also became the first competitor in Stoa history to appear in Apologetics finals at Nationals three times. During his time in the league, Micah secured 53 first-place finishes across the limited preparation, platform, interpretive, debate, and wild card events.

Seven years. Four debate formats. National and international competition. Cash has trained across Parliamentary, Team Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, and Extemporaneous Speaking — building a command of policy, economics, philosophy, and current events that few competitors ever reach.

The results speak for themselves: national titles in both Parliamentary and Team Policy Debate, nine tournament wins across three debate formats, and eighteen Extemporaneous Speaking final appearances. Coach Parker Clayton

Parker has competed in Team Policy and Parliamentary Debate, developing extensive experience in both formats, as well as speech.

As a sophomore, Parker became the Team Policy Debate National Champion, going a perfect 9-0 in outrounds at Nationals. He did this in only his second year of competing in speech and debate. That same year, Parker wrote his first platform ever, a persuasive, and took it all the way to finals, placing third at Nationals. During his junior year, he chose to compete in Team Policy with his sister, who had only competed in eight TP tournaments before the season. The two made an incredible run to the NITOC semifinals, ultimately placing third in the nation. Parker also competed in Parliamentary his junior year, where he and his partner ranked sixth overall in the nation.

Beyond his own competition, Parker served as his club's Team Policy and Parliamentary captain during his final two years, coaching multiple novice teams to national competition.

Having accomplished as a sophomore and junior what most competitors dream of doing as seniors, Parker was content to retire from competition after his junior year. Now, he works with competitors at every experience level, tailoring each session to their goals, strengths, and needs. Above all, he is genuinely in your corner, always a FaceTime or text away. Parker wants his students to succeed as much as they do.

Coach Parker Calhoun

National Finalist

My name is Parker Calhoun, and I'm currently an undergraduate student at Regent University in Virginia Beach studying pre law and national security. I credit my years in STOA with refining my communication and writing skills, as well as building lifelong friendships.

I competed in Team Policy for six seasons and Parliamentary Debate for four seasons. Last season, my partner Zion Roose and I made the NITOC Team Policy finals at Union University after winning the upper bracket. We finished the season with four Team Policy tournament wins and 69 TP wins overall, which is one of the best single season records in STOA history. We also won three straight Parli tournaments and finished 2nd in the nation in TP and 6th in Parli.

Throughout my coaching, I hope to help you succeed in debate by focusing on setting goals, improving from tournament to tournament, and developing winning strategies by choosing the right arguments.

Coach Joshua Wang

National Finalist

Joshua has competed in 10 speech events and 5 debate formats, reaching 115+ finals, winning 29 tournaments, becoming a three time national debate quarterfinalist, and finishing as a national speech finalist at NITOC.

As a fifteen year old novice, Joshua and his partner placed 6th at Nationals in Policy Debate. The next year, they finished the season ranked 3rd overall, and two years after that, Joshua finished his career ranked 2nd overall among all Team Policy Speakers in the country.

Joshua took his success beyond Stoa, becoming the 2026 National Moot Court runner up and proving his skills internationally as a semifinalist in the Czech Republic at a tournament representing 20+ countries.

Joshua brings an unmatched breadth of experience across events, debate formats, and diverse audiences, giving students the insight to improve faster without learning every lesson the hard way.

Whether novice or national champion, anyone can benefit from private coaching. It is tailored to the exact areas the you desire to improve.

In debate, this can include mastering impact calculus, effective time management, winning rounds in cross-examination, lethal POIs, developing your debate personality, maintaining the highest status in round, adapting to your judge, delivering with genuine persuasion, and using voting issues to actually sway a ballot.

In speech, coaching can focus on balancing statistics, quotes, verses, and stories under time pressure, how to brief EVERY limited prep, making each speech genuinely impactful, avoiding dull platforms, and making themes concrete.

Coaching can also involve direct feedback through reviews of your cases, speeches, debate briefs, apologetics cards, and Mars Hill binders, as well as practice round and speech analysis, personalized drills, and even live debate rounds against coaches!

Preparation work can include writing speeches and cases, creating a time-efficient and exhaustive brief, building a parliamentary prep plan, developing a weekly prep strategy, and practicing the most effective drills. And so much more.
